” Sign up for my newsletter” says a random website that you accidently landed on.
“Oh amazing! I will! I can hardly wait to get weekly emails about what this unknown person/company has achieved this week!” says absolutely no-one ever.
Please remember this – NO-ONE LIKES NEWSLETTERS!
Newsletters are so 2010!
BUT having an email list and communicating with them regularly is one of the best marketing tools available. If you do it right, It’s easy, it’s cheap and it creates loyal clients who love you.
If you share things that educate, entertain or interest your ideal client, it’s the best way to build long-term relationships with your clients.
So you do want an email list and you do want to send them regular doses of your own unique take on the world – just don’t ask them to sign up for a “newsletter” and don’t send them a “newsletter”, once they do sign up!
A freebie, an opt-in , a lead magnet – all names for something you’ve created that you know your ideal client will love and that they won’t mind swapping their email address for.
Then, when they get on your list. Send them emails about things they are interested in, things that they’ll like. Things they’ll appreciate. Send emails that inspire, motivate and delight.
Just don’t send newsletters!
